Darth Maul’s incredible tenacity and singular focus on revenge against the Jedi who wronged him, specifically Obi-Wan Kenobi, have led to some of the most memorable (and sad) moments in the Star Wars universe.
5. His Relationship With His Brother Savage Opress

In Clone Wars, Maul was found by his brother, Savage Opress. The big reveal that Maul survived the events of The Phantom Menace was a game-changer for the Star Wars canon as a whole. However, Maul was little more than a crazed hermit, broken both mentally and physically. Savage brought him back to their home world of Dathomir, where the Nightsisters restored his mind and gave him a new set of cybernetic legs. Together, the two brothers forged an alliance, with Maul intent on using Savage to rebuild his power.
Maul’s relationship with Savage was a rare look into a more vulnerable, and even caring, side of the former Sith. They were a powerful duo, but their bond went deeper than just power. Maul treated Savage with a degree of respect he never showed anyone else. Their partnership ultimately ended in tragedy, but it was am important part of Maul’s journey back to the top.
4. His Return in Star Wars Rebels on Malachor

Decades after his apparent demise on Mandalore, Maul returned to the Star Wars galaxy once again, this time on the ancient Sith temple on the planet Malachor. His return, seeking a powerful Sith holocron, connected his path with Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, and Ahsoka Tano. He manipulated the Ezra and blinded Kanan in order to access the temple’s secrets by claiming he wanted to destroy the Sith.
Maulโs return on Malachor showed off the extent of in deception and raw power. He was a cunning enemy, able to go toe-to-toe with multiple Jedi at once, one of whomโAhsoka Tanoโ bested him when she was only a teen. The episode put everything that made Maul such a memorable character with deep knowledge of the dark side, cementing his place as one of the most dangerous figures in the galaxy.
3. The Reveal That He Was Still Alive in The Clone Wars

The galaxy believed Darth Maul had been long-since defeated, but made a shocking return in the season four finale of The Clone Wars. He was found by Savage Opress on a junkyard planet, a broken and insane shell of his former self. His return was a surprising moment for both the characters and the audience, turning a presumed one-off villain into a major player that went on to color the next decade of the franchase.
