Glen Powell’s Ted Lasso Replacement Has Finally Arrived on Hulu

Debuting Tuesday, September 30th, Chad Powers is based on Eli Manning’s character created for the ESPN sketch Eli’s Places and stars Powell as Russ Holliday, an arrogant, narcissistic college football quarterback whose career crumbled after he disgraced himself in a championship game. In an attempt to start over, he disguises himself as Chad Powers to start fresh as a walk-on player for a college team. The series also stars Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, Perry Mattfeld, Wynne Everett, Frankie A. Rodriguez and more.

The series consists of six episodes, with the first two available immediately on Hulu. Subsequent episodes will debut weekly on Tuesdays. Powell co-wrote the script for the pilot alongside Waldron while Eli and Peyton Manning serve as executive producers.

Chad Powers Is Perfect For Fans Missing Ted Lasso

Outside of the obvious sports comedy connection of it all, Chad Powers is perfect for fans who are looking for something to fill the gap while they wait for season four of Ted Lasso. Based on what we’ve seen from trailers for Chad Powers, the series will feature not only that special brand of spots comedy, but also a good bit of drama as well as Powell’s Russ seeks to get a second chance after making some pretty major mistakes. While pretending to be someone else might not exactly be the right way to go about that, the idea that Russ could be on a journey to realize that for himself certainly makes things interesting.

It’s that element of Powell’s character being on a potentially complex road to redemption that also sets Chad Powers apart from Ted Lasso. The new series feels much more like a character-based series that is much more focused on Russ’ journey rather than the larger journey of a team. There’s also the added element of Powell’s character physically disguising himself with prosthetics that adds to the humor — and the stakes — as well.

The first two episodes of Chad Powers are streaming on Hulu.
