I Wish We Got More Scenes With Thor: Ragnarok’s Best 2 Villains

Thor: Ragnarok stripped the titular God of Thunder (Chris Hemsworth) of everything he loved: his home, Asgard, his hammer, Mjolnir, and his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Odin’s death meant that his secret firstborn child’s cage was opened, releasing the Goddess of Death, Hela (Cate Blanchett), who was one of the best additions to the MCU. She came face-to-face with Thor and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) upon her arrival, and made a strong first impression by destroying Thor’s enchanted hammer, Mjolnir, before pushing them out of the Bifrost in, shockingly, the only scene Hela and Loki share in Thor: Ragnarok.

Loki and Hela proved themselves to be two of the most charismatic, captivating, and powerful villains in the MCU in Thor: Ragnarok. As adoptive brother and sister, it would have been fantastic to see them share more screen-time, especially with the dose of humor that Taika Waititi introduced in the Phase 3 movie. This is even more disappointing as we almost got more action with Loki and Hela sharing the screen, as revealed by unused scenes and set photos from Ragnarok’s production.

Thor: Ragnarok’s trailer revealed that Odin’s death scene was almost very different in the MCU movie. Instead of peacefully turning to stardust and drifting away on the cliffs of Norway, Odin’s death almost occurred in New York City, with Hela herself returning to kill and usurp her father. This would have seen a homeless Odin, Thor, and Loki battle Hela in an elongated scene, rather than Hela arriving shortly after Odin’s demise, but this was altered to give Odin a death with more dignity, and make the lock on Hela’s cage in Hell more intricately tied to Odin’s life.

Set photos from Thor: Ragnarok also seemed to suggest that Loki and Hela would share a moment later on after the God of Mischief returned to Asgard after his time on Sakaar. It’s unclear what this scene would have contained, but it would have been brilliant for Hiddleston and Blanchett to get more time on-screen together as their iconic MCU villains. The multiverse has introduced variants of both Loki and Hela – and more heroic ones at that – so it’s possibly we could see them together in Phase 6, should these variants return in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
