Peacock Streaming a Gory 2024 Horror Movie That Puts A Surprising Spin on a Favorite Monster

As of September 19th, Peacock subscribers can now stream 2024’s hit horror film Abigail. From Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the movie is a loose reimagining of the 1936 film Dracula’s Daughter and centers around a kidnapping plot involving a 12-year-old ballerina who is the daughter of a powerful underworld boss. After successfully kidnapping the young girl and bringing her to a secluded mansion, the group of would-be criminals find themselves in a fight for their lives when their unassuming victim turns out to be a bloodthirsty vampire. Alisha Weir stars as the titular character alongside Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, Will Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud, and Giancarlo Esposito.

Why You Should Watch Abigail

There’s no shortage of vampire films to choose from, but Abigail remains a standout in the vampire genre. The movie offers a much-needed fresh twist on the vampire story by trading the usual seductive or ancient vampire for a more unassuming terror: a little girl who is just as brutal and bloodthirsty as those in other vampire films, brought to life through a wickedly good and entertaining performance from young actress Alisha Weir. The rest of the ensemble cast shines, and Radio Silence excels in its signature blend of comedy and horror to deliver a high-octane, blood-soaked romp that is equal parts scary and funny and a devilishly good time.

With all that going for it, it’s no surprise that Abigail secured equally high 83% critic and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes, a number high enough to earn it a “Certified Fresh” distinction. The movie received praise for being “a little silly, a little scary, and a lot of fun” and for dancing “around the familiarity of its premise with a game cast and slick style.” At the box office, the movie pulled in a $43 million worldwide haul against a $28 million production budget. Although that number was a box office disappointment, it still meant that Abigail surpassed the box office of two other recent vampire movies, Renfield and The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Abigail also became a streaming success.

Other Horror Movies Now on Peacock

Horror fans have no shortage of options to choose from on Peacock. With Halloween season in full swing, the NBCUniversal streamer has spent September stocking its library with dozens of horror titles. Some of the most notable horror additions of the month that are now streaming include most of the Chucky franchise, two Halloween sequels, The Birds, Scream 4, The Sixth Sense, and Terrifier 3.

Peacock is set to bring even more horror options to streaming in October, with movies such as The Omen (1976), The Ring, and Shaun of the Dead set to arrive on October 1st.
