Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas started streaming on Tubi, Fox’s free streaming service, on September 1st. The movie is an adaptation of Nicholas Pileggi’s 1985 book Wiseguy and remains not only one of the best gangster movies of all time, and one that ranks alongside the likes of The Godfather, but also one of the best movies ever. The film chronicles the rise and fall of Mafia associate Henry Hill, covering his relationship with his wife and mob partners and his rise through the ranks of his neighborhood’s organized crime branch to become a big-time wise guy and eventually a federal witness.
Why You Should Watch Goodfellas
Much of what there is to love about Goodfellas and why it’s still a cinematic masterpiece has Scorsese to credit. The movie marked a career-defining film for Scorsese. Although the filmmaker had already built a solid reputation in Hollywood with movies like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull by the time Goodfellas released in 1990, the gangster film was widely loved by critics and brought his directing style to a wider audience.
