New Star Wars Movie Rumor Reveals Yet Another Jedi Survivor (& Already Retcons The Sequel Trilogy)

Or maybe not. Starfighter has been shrouded in mystery nearly the whole time anyone has known anything about it, and none of us really knew what to expect other than Ryan Gosling and other big names, such as Matt Smith and Mia Goth, would be gracing our screens. But now, thanks to The Hot Mic’s John Rocha, we know a bit more—and it turns quite a bit about what audiences thought they should expect on its head. Pulling back the curtain on Starfighter, Rocha said, “The main kid is Force-sensitive. His mom is being played, as we said, by Amy Adams. She seems to be a Jedi. Gosling is not a Jedi, but he’s helping his nephew escape two evil bad guys who are chasing him across the stars. He has a mission he’s on, given to him by Adams.”

Star Wars Just Can’t Stay Away From The Force (And Father Figures)

Does the plot of Starfighter sound familiar? It should. This would be the third Star Wars installment centered around a guy protecting a Force-sensitive youngster as they go on a dangerous jaunt across the galaxy, with Ryan Gosling joining the ranks of Pedro Pascal, Liam Neeson, and Ewan McGregor as Din Djarin, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Obi-Wan Kenobi—all beleaguered space dads just doing their best to raise their powerful wards in this crazy galaxy.

As for where Starfighter fits into the mix, we’ve known for years now that there was a planned film centering around Rey and her mission to rebuild the Jedi order in the wake of the events of The Rise of Skywalker. And it looks like Starfighter might be tied into that storyline, with Ryan Gosling’s character potentially looking to get his nephew into Rey’s care. And coming back around to the introduction of Amy Adams and what her character means to the story, if her character is indeed a Jedi, as Rocha claims, it means she has to have either survived Order 66 as a very young child (depending on her species and longevity), or—more likely—survived Kylo Ren’s decimation of Luke’s Jedi Temple. Either way, this is another example of Star Wars twisting its own lore to support a new story (we’re looking at you, The Rise of Skywalker), making “The Last Jedi” title a lie. How many last Jedis are we going to have, exactly?
