“I totally do, we’ve talked about it,” Reeves told IndieWire on the Emmys red carpet when asked if he has plans for other television spinoffs. While the director confirmed that creative conversations about expanding his corner of the DC universe have taken place, he was quick to underline that his primary focus remains on the big screen. “That’s where the priorities have been [The Batman Part II]. These conversations may or may not… Look, I’m not in control of DC, and I can only tell you what I’d love to do, and there are things they know we would love to do, and those conversations may begin again when it’s appropriate.”
Before the massive success of The Penguin, other series set within Reeve’s continuity were already in development, including shows centered on the Gotham City Police Department and the infamous Arkham Asylum. Those projects were ultimately shelved. However, the critical and audience reception for The Penguin, particularly for a character like Sofia Falcone, who is not widely known outside of comics, could reopen those doors. The series itself leaves narrative threads dangling, especially regarding Sofia’s connection to Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz), her half-sister. With plenty of story left to explore in this version of Gotham, the Emmy wins may just be the catalyst for a much larger expansion.
The Batman 2 Is DC Studios’ First Big Elseworlds Project

While more television spinoffs are a future possibility, the next confirmed chapter of this saga is The Batman Part II. After a series of delays that pushed the release date from its original 2025 slot, director Reeves has confirmed the script, co-written with Mattson Tomlin, is complete. The delays were attributed to Reeves needing the proper time to finalize the script, a decision fully supported by DC Studios co-head James Gunn, who has emphasized the importance of a finished screenplay before entering production. Filming is now scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026.
The journey to The Batman Part II has not been without external noise, as some fans campaigned for Reeves’ universe to be merged into the mainline DC Universe continuity being built by Gunn and Peter Safran. However, Gunn has been vocal about Reeve’s projects remaining a separate entity, officially designated as a DC Elseworlds project, allowing it to maintain its distinct tone and narrative without being beholden to a larger interconnected story. This strategy allows for multiple interpretations of iconic characters to exist simultaneously. In fact, the DCU’s version of Gotham City will get its own introduction next year in Clayface, which is described as an R-rated body horror film. This project will be tonally very different from Reeves’ grounded crime saga, showcasing DC Studios’ plan to explore its iconic characters through varied genre lenses.
The Batman – Part II is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 1, 2027. Before that, Clayface is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 11, 2026.
