Esquire spoke to Anthony Mackie and Chris Evans for a feature on Captain America: Brave New World. When asked about reports of appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, Evans was quick to contradict those claims. โThatโs not true, though,โ Evans said. โThis always happens. I mean, it happens every couple yearsโever since [Avengers]:ย Endgame.ย Iโve just stopped responding to it.โ Evans then gave the same response that he previously shared with Anthony Mackie when he inquired: โYeah, noโhappily retired!โ

Mackie also spoke about the reports linking Chris Evans to Avengers: Doomsday. โI didnโt know!โ Mackie said with a laugh. โI talked to Chris a few weeks ago and it wasnโt on the table then. At least, he didnโt tell me it was on the table, because I asked him. I was like, โYou know, they said theyโre bringing everyone back for the movie. Are you coming back?โโโ
The Captain America: Brave New World star then did an impression of Evans, โHe goes, โOh, you know, Iโm happily retired.โโโ He continued, โI learned that right there. My manager showed me. Heโs like, โOh, so I guess Chris is coming back.โ Thatโs all I know. I havenโt seen a script.โ
One actor who has confirmed they are appearing in Avengers: Doomsday is Benedict Cumberbatch. The Doctor Strange star previously said he was being cut from Avengers: Doomsday, but that he had a larger role in its sequel, Avengers: Endgame. Apparently, that has changed, because now Cumberbatch confirms he was mistaken and will, in fact, return as Doctor Strange in Avengers: Doomsday.
I got that wrong. I am in the next one,” Cumberbatch told Business Insider. However, he qualified his statement by adding: โDonโt ever believe anything I say.โ
Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026.
