Over on the Nintendo Switch Reddit page, one Mario fan has pointed out that Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 actually looks worse in some places compared to the original games. And there is obviously no excuse for this, as the Nintendo Switch is a far more powerful machine than the Wii.
Downgrade?
More specifically, the top post on the aforementioned Reddit page points out that parts of the new port, at least as it is shown in its debut trailer, are missing textures. Now, this could be the result of the fact that the footage shows a dated version of the game, where smaller details like various texturing have not been accounted for. This is possible, and does happen. However, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 is less than a month out, and thus, to be showing off such an unfinished version of the game would be odd.
More than this, it would be one thing if the texture issues were universal, as this would indicate that this is simply an early version of the game. But the textures don’t just look fine elsewhere, but are improved in many places, suggesting this is more oversight than anything else.
“Hopefully They Fix This”
“The first one is really bad. I hope Nintendo fixes it before release,” reads one of the comments on the post above. Another adds, “If you are going to charge a premium price, you’d better deliver a premium product. Hope they get this fixed!”
A third comment further drives home the point: “Wow, that first one is a major difference without the texture. Hopefully, they fix this.”
