The PSP game in question is Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga, a crossover fighting game from Nihon Falcom that combines characters from the Ys and Trails RPG series. This new release, meanwhile, is being handled by developer Refint/games and being published by Falcom.
What’s New?
The latter pair are reviving the forgotten PSP game alongside new remastered graphics, which will be bolstered with support for 60 frames per second. In addition to this, couch and online multiplayer will be available for the first time, and a jump mechanic has also been added, which completely revamps the gameplay. Lastly, now that the PSP game is getting an English release, it is getting English voice acting.
To say this is a random re-release of a very niche 15-year-old game would almost be underselling this release. However, while somewhat niche in the modern era, both the Ys and Trails series have hardcore fanbases. How many of these hardcore RPG fans are going to be interested in checking out a fighting game, though, we don’t know. The aforementioned duo have yet to go into great detail on why they are reviving this game, but perhaps it’s with an eye on making a new crossover fighting game involving the two historic RPG series. As for the PSP specifically, this joins a 2006 PSP game also set to return soon. Beyond these two games, though, not much is being done with the PSP library, currently.
All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation now in the ComicBook Forum. Will you be checking out this 2010 PSP game when it rereleases next month on October 10?
