New Nintendo Direct Taking Place This Week (And It’s Longer Than Normal)

Videos by ComicBook.com

With Switch 1 games confirmed to be appearing in the presentation, those on the previous-gen consoles should prepare themselves, as this may be the last Direct featuring games on this platform. As Nintendo continues to support its latest handheld, the Switch 2, support for the first Switch will likely dwindle. Still, this is a great chance to see upcoming games that will release later this year and into 2026.

What to Expect From September 2025’s Nintendo Direct

There are a lot of possibilities for what fans can expect at this new Nintendo Direct. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is one of the most anticipated games to be shown. With 2025 nearing its end and no release date known, it’s expected that Nintendo will drop this information and at last reveal when Samus’ next 3D adventure will be available.

A new Animal Crossing game is also high on fans’ wishlists for this Direct. Animal Crossing: New Horizons proved to be one of the most popular Nintendo Switch games, but players are eager for something new in the series. Nintendo did provide a Nintendo Switch 2 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but this does not mean a new game won’t also be released, especially since it has been over five years since the last entry.

More first-party games for the Nintendo Switch 2 are also likely to appear. Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, and the upcoming Kirby Air Riders are the only Switch 2 exclusive games by Nintendo so far. There is also a good chance that more third-party games will follow Cyberpunk 2077 and Star Wars Outlaws and announce ports for the console.

It remains to be seen what Nintendo shows off on September 12th. Excitement is in the air, though, and fans cannot wait for this upcoming Nintendo Direct. Thankfully, there are only two days to wait before Nintendo shows off its upcoming games.
