The trailer shown at the State of Play didn’t reveal too many details, serving mostly to confirm the rumors that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is coming to PlayStation 5. However, we did learn that it’s launching later this year. PS5 owners can take to the skies on December 8, 2025. Thankfully, the PlayStation Blog shed more light on what we can expect when Flight Sim launches.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PlayStation 5
As mentioned, the trailer mostly just announced the release date for Flight Sim. The PlayStation Blog revealed that Flight Sim is taking advantage of some key PS5 tech to improve the experience. You’ll notice the adaptive triggers responding to different speeds and surface types, while communication from air traffic control will come through the controller’s speakers. There’s also gyro controls, lightbar support, and a customizable touchpad. The team is really taking advantage of the controller in every way possible.
It’s the fully-featured version of Flight Sim, as well. You can pilot up to 125 different aircraft, including eVTOLs, rotorcraft, fighter jets, and everything in between. There are over 100,000 different places to land and take off from, letting you traverse the globe at your leisure. The PlayStation 5 will include a new type of aircraft, letting players break the sound barrier in Boom Supersonic’s new demonstrator XB-1.
There’s also the new career mode the developers introduced with Flight Sim 2024, which lets players work their way through all of the different types of aircraft until they become digital aviation masters. Importantly, all World and Sim Updates will be provided for free. There is a marketplace filled with new aircraft, airports, and third-party creations, but the core content won’t require an extra purchase.
