Hades 2 was an impressive feat in Early Access, showing off a well-crafted game ready for fine-tuning and polish. Now, the full release will show gamers just what Supergiant can do to build upon the impressive Hades. The 2020 release earned an incredibly solid 93 Metacritic aggregate score, landing it in the Universal Acclaim category. And while reviews are still rolling in, Hades 2 looks poised to outdo its predecessor. As of this writing, Hades 2 has snagged a Metacritic aggregate score of 94, with the Switch and PC versions trending a smidge higher at 95 and 96, respectively.
Hades 2 Could Snag 2025’s Highest Metacritic Rating Yet

Many early reviews for Hades 2, including our own, went up right at the embargo lift. However, additional critical reviews will continue to roll in and be scored over the coming days. So, that 94 overall Metacritic rating isn’t yet set in stone for Hades 2. However, it’s a promising early sign that suggests this could well be one of 2025’s highest-reviewed games. As of this writing, the only higher scores on Metacritic are for the Switch 2 editions of Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild. Given that these aren’t truly new games, I think it’s safe to say that Hades 2 could be on its way to number one for 2025 releases.
Whether or not the score remains exactly as it is now, it’s safe to say that critics are impressed with Hades 2. Given that the original Hades snagged a series of awards during its release year, including The Game Award for Best Independent Game, that’s not a total surprise. However, not every sequel manages to live up to its predecessor, let alone surpass it.
