5 Hero Fusions We Need to See More Off

I absolutely love when heroes fuse, and it’s happened quite a few times in both Marvel and DC. So today, we’re going to take a look at five of the coolest double hero fusions that we definitely need to see more of. Some are recurring beings who deserve all of their appearances, and others are one-offs who never got to fully deliver on the concept behind their merger. Regardless of how often they’ve appeared, everyone here should show up even more. Without further ado, let’s dig into some fusions.

5) Superman/Batman

This fusion of the World’s Finest duo first came about in Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #4, when they willed the mind-controlled Green Lantern’s ring off his finger, inadvertently combining themselves into a single being. This fusion not only has all of Batman’s skills and Superman’s powers, but he’s sporting all of Green Lantern’s strengths on top of it, as if he wasn’t overpowered enough already. Batman and Superman are two of the greatest heroes of all time, so seeing them merged and given access to the infinite possibilities that the Power Ring offers is enough to make a fanboy squeal. This combo has made a few appearances since his first, having definitely made an impression with the fans and his creators.

4) Iron Hammer (Iron Man/Thor)

Stark Odinson first appeared in Infinity Wars #3, when Gamora used the Infinity Stones to fold the universe in half and merge souls in pairs. Iron Man and Thor’s histories were combined, with Stark Odinson being the arrogant son of Howard Odin, and exiled to Earth to learn humility. His origin mixed the mythical aspects of Thor and Tony’s very human struggles, all tied together with a theme of learning to be humble. Their origins actually complement each other really well, and the design and symbolism behind Siguard Stark being a disabled man underneath his godly armor is fantastic. This is a fantastic character to headline a What If story, for certain.

3) Speed Demon (The Flash/Etrigan/Ghost Rider)

This triple fusion showed up during Marvel and DC’s Amalgam crossover, in Speed Demon. After Blaze Allen’s newlywed wife, Iris, was taken away from him, he bonded with the demon Etrigan to bring her peace and enact vengeance on the wicked. As if any of these characters weren’t overpowered enough on their own, this fusion combined the Flash’s speed, Etrigan’s physical abilities and hellfire, and Ghost Rider’s Penance Stare, for crying out loud. This is one of the strongest fusions ever put to comic book paper, and definitely provides a bunch of interesting questions. Blaze Allen has the normal Barry’s personality, and seeing a deeply principled man like that be Ghost Rider is always a treat, especially alongside Etrigan’s rhymes.

2) Amazon (Wonder Woman/Storm)

Technically, this Amalgam fusion of Diana and Ororo is still called Wonder Woman, but we’ll refer to her as Amazon to keep things simple, and since that’s what her oneshot was called. This version of the character saw Ororo be lost at sea as a child, only to wash up on Paradise Island and be raised as a princess of Themyscira. Amazon combines all of Storm’s incredible powers with the training and mentality of DC’s best warriors for peace, which creates an incredibly interesting and entertaining character. The one small caveat is that she lacks Wonder Woman’s strength, but given that Storm is powerful enough, that’s probably for the best. 

1) Night Lantern (Nightwing/Green Lantern)

Night Lantern and the rest of the Justice Titans appeared in Superman/Batman #60 and #61, being the combination of different Justice Leaguers and Titans in a shared dream for Superman and Batman, created by Doctor Destiny. Named Hal Grayson, Night Lantern was the leader of the Justice Titans and is practically the original Nightwing, just given a Power Ring and not trained by Batman. This character offers an interesting look into one of DC’s most important characters, and is further proof that Dick would make an incredible Green Lantern. Night Lantern is the leader that Dick should be, and has access to one of the most powerful weapons out there. What’s not to love?
