Marvel’s villains were much more scary than their counterparts from the distinguished competition. Marvel’s more mature, grounded feel made supervillains creepier than ever; these villains didn’t just want to make some money and stay out of jail, they wanted to harm the innocent. The ten Marvel villains are the creepiest, their evil driving them to do the most frightening things imaginable.
10) Purple Man

Purple Man is one of Marvel’s most monstrous characters. Purple Man’s powers allowed him to control the minds of anyone around him, as he was given the ability to use his pheromones to make anyone do anything he wanted. Purple Man was something of a joke until Alias, which revealed that he had used his mind control powers to sexually abuse Jewel, the hero identity of Jessica Jones. This creepiness became a hallmark of the character, and has changed the way that everyone looks at him. Before, he was just an Eastern European spy that did some damage that no one really cared about. After Alias he became one of the most hated villains in the Marvel Universe (and he got a cathartic beating at the hands of Luke Cage).
9) Mephisto

Mephisto finally made his MCU debut, after years of fans guessing that he was behind everything, though he isn’t the most popular villain in the comics. That said, he’s done a lot of terrible things, including being used as the mechanism to get rid of Spider-Man and Mary Jane’s marriage. However, even before that, we all knew just how creepy that Mephisto could be. Mephisto is all about temptation; he wants to bring as many souls as he can into his own realm, and offers people their heart’s desire in exchange for everything they are. Mephisto has no morality and will give whatever you want to do what he wants. There’s something immeasurably creepy about the way Mephisto operates, and the loincloth he wears adds to his whole sleazily evil feel.
8) Grim Reaper

Eric Williams was the bad seed younger brother of Simon Williams, and his manipulations forced Simon to be transformed into Wonder Man so Eric could stay free. Eric eventually became a supervillain known as Grim Reaper. Grim Reaper had no powers, instead using a scythe that could fire energy blasts at his enemies. Grim Reaper died eventually, but was able to come back to life; much like his brother Wonder Man, he is functionally immortal. Grim Reaper mastered necromantic magics over the years and is constantly killed and resurrected. He’s a monster who only wants one thing out of the world โ the death of his brother and pain for his friends. The Grim Reaper will do anything to destroy his brother’s life, going to every length to do damage to Wonder Man and the Avengers.
7) Shadow King

Mind controlling villains always have a very creepy vibe to them, and few can match the Shadow King on that scale. The Shadow King is one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains, a powerful psionic entity that has existed since the beginning of life in the multiverse. The Shadow King is a representation of the darkness in the psyche of all living things, and has haunted the nightmares of the living for eons. The Shadow King would take control of the body of Amahl Farouk two hundred years ago, and since then has wreaked havoc on humanity for his own amusement. The Shadow King wants nothing more to control every living being in existence, taking away everything that makes individuals special. Shadow King uses people like puppets, and will take control of anyone in order to fulfill his goals. The Shadow King is a monster unlike any other out there, a creepy thing that has always existed just outside of the view of the living, a chilling threat that you can’t really find but is always there.
6) Green Goblin

Green Goblin is Spider-Man’s greatest villain, a monster that has haunted his life for years. Norman Osborn has always been a creepy villain. His green and purple costume, topped off by his unsettling mask has been a symbol of terror in Spider-Man’s life. Green Goblin shares a lot in common with the Joker; both of them are monsters who will do anything to hurt their foes, and both of them do it with a smile on their face, their demented laughter echoing through the alleys they fight their battles in. Green Goblin doesn’t just want to knock Spider-Man out; he wants to take everything good out of his life. He enjoys destroying the things that Peter Parker loves, and his evil glee makes him the creepiest Spider-Man villain out there.
