Luckily, the latest One Piece Chapter 1160, which continues the ongoing backstory in the Elbaf Arc, has officially fixed their name, and it is more fitting based on the original version.

As it turns out, the official name of the group has always been a topic of discussion among fans, especially Japanese speakers, who noticed the inaccuracy in the translation. Both the anime and the manga have been calling them “Holy Knights” since the beginning, while many fans claim that “God’s Knights” is a more suitable title for them, according to the Japanese translation. The latest Chapter 1160 features the backstory of the God Valley Incident and officially renames them as “Holy Knights of God.”

According to @DawnStussy on X, it’s more fitting based on the original Japanese text. The Celestial Dragons always refer to themselves as Gods who live in Marijoa, which is officially called the Holy Land. However, based on the original Japanese text, it should actually be the “Land of the Gods,” which would make more sense since that’s where all the Gods of the world reside. Even the name of the land, Marijoa, has had several inconsistencies over the years, with many official manga and anime versions claiming it’s either Maijois or Mary Geoise as well.

Considering that all the Knights are Celestial Dragons, one can imagine how prideful they will be about their position and would not miss a chance to make it known to their enemies, who are going against the “Gods.” Another reason why including “Gods” in their official title is so necessary is that the Holy Knights of God, or at least their Supreme Commander, Garling, have the authority to execute even a fellow World Noble. While all the Celestial Dragons refer to themselves as Gods, they also have to answer to the people who have the authority to rule over them. This helps maintain order in the Holy Land, and anyone who sides with the ordinary people is immediately put to death, as evidenced by the brutal execution of Saint Donquixote Mjosgard after the Reverie.

The Celestial Dragons only exist to shed light on the brutality and tyranny of the Government, but it’s not like they know about the truth of the world. During Vegapunk’s broadcast, we learn that the Celestial Dragons were confused when he mentioned the Void Century and Joy Boy. However, that’s not the case for the Holy Knights of God, who share Imu’s powers and directly serve the mysterious ruler of the world. While Garling has replaced Saint Jaygarcia Saturn as one of the Five Elders, the Holy Knights of God still work under him.

His son, Shamrock, serves as their Commander and direct leader, but he hasn’t been promoted to the Supreme Commander yet, which means Garling still has retained his position. The exact number of members and their powers haven’t been revealed yet, but since we are in the second arc of the Final Saga, the series won’t make us wait for long. Their attack on Elbaf is only a brief glimpse at what they are truly capable of. Not only are they powerful, but ruthless to their core, which makes them truly terrifying.
